Hi! I’m Monique Cormack, the girl behind Nourish Everyday.
I am a former lawyer, and now a qualified Nutritionist holding a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition).
I love to see people enjoying healthy food, so I create wholesome, beautiful food and blog recipes and nutrition tips.
Background
I haven’t always been good with food; I was one of those teenagers who was quite unhealthy but managed to stay slim, despite drinking, eating fast food and being open to a cookie or two! Fast forward to my late teens/early twenties, and a different mindset developed. Things in my life were not where I wanted them to be, so I started to control my food and exercise regime to try to make myself “better”.
I became a calorie counting maniac, being as strict as I could each and every day. In a twisted way, I guess it “worked”; I lost so much weight. I constantly calculated the calories in everything I ate and exercised to exhaustion as often as I could. I knew people were starting to pick up on my habits, but I just couldn’t stop. I was being pulled aside at work and asked if I wanted (needed!) counselling. My happiness levels plummeted, and because of my fanatical eating regime I also alienated myself from my friends.
Luckily, with love, support and a strong desire to change, I have emerged from this troubling period. Now, I am firmly on a path to learn as much as I can about how to treat my body better, and to share that knowledge with others. What we eat and how we eat can have such a significant effect on our physical and mental health. Put the right fuel into your body and your mind is clear and you’ve got the energy to power through the hugest of days.
I started blogging under the name Cook Chew Conquer a few years ago, and have now moved over to Nourish Everyday. I believe that this new name perfectly captures a key passion of mine; to bring real, healthy and nourishing food into the everyday.
My goals with Nourish Everyday
I want to:
- increase our awareness of good nutrition, and what our bodies need to function optimally;
- provide information and recipes which make it easier to make healthier lifestyle choices, even for busy people;
- promote nourishing alternatives to the deprivation and dieting that so many embark on when they decide they want to “get healthy”.
Being healthy should be something you can always follow without feeling like you’re chained to some kind of food and exercise plan that sucks up all of your time, and that brings you no joy. Healthy is not a quick fix – it’s a way of life. More than that, it’s an enjoyable, tasty, hassle-free way of life! I don’t believe in diets, calorie counting or feeling guilty for having a treat now and then. Sharing food with friends, baking cakes and enjoying a nice glass of wine are all wonderful things to do.
I eat healthily and I truly love the food that I eat – it is possible to do both! It’s not about “taking the healthy option” and having to chomp down on a bland salad. I hope that you enjoy my website and find some tips and recipes on here that make you truly love your healthy meals too.
