Over the Easter break I was lucky enough to escape for a 2.5 week holiday with my man; we flew across the Atlantic for an adventure in New York City and then on to Mexico. Needless to say, it was incredibly fun and I didn’t want the holiday life to end – the freedom of waking up each day with no set agenda, and so many places to explore, is just totally magical.
As part of the trip, I was really excited to scope out the NYC foodie scene and try out lots of the hip and healthy spots that have popped up in the city. I certainly wasn’t disappointed; I sampled so many delicious and nutritious things. My only regret was that my stomach wasn’t big enough to squeeze even more in! By the time we rolled out of dinner each night I was well and truly satisfied, I assure you. All in the name of research… right?!
If you’re wondering what my favourite healthy hotspots were, then jump on over to The Fit Foodie’s blog and read my latest post, where I’ve compiled a TASTY list of places to dine in NYC. We stayed in Soho, so my list is focused around that area – I know the city has a lot more to give but I could only get so many things in during our six-day stint! If you have a similar healthy-foodie vibe to me, Soho is a top spot to stay though, I must say. We were a five-minute stroll from so many great little places; especially breakfast cafes, which are essential for fuelling up before sightseeing.
Though I only had my iPhone with me for the trip, I still managed to snap a few photos of some of my favourite eats during my time in NYC. A few of them are over in my post for The Fit Foodie, but I thought I’d pop up some of them here for you too, because we all love a bit of food porn!
Above and at the top of this post, snaps of some delicious breakfasts enjoyed at Egg Shop NYC. We had to go twice so that I could try both sides of the menu, the “Cruiser” bowls and the sandwich options. Yum.
Sweetgreen was by far my favourite place to grab a healthy lunch on the go in between sightseeing. I had so many delicious salads there and SUGARFREE iced tea! Love.
Jack’s Wife Freda serves the most delicious bowl of goodness that’s perfect for breakfast or lunch. You can’t see it but there’s a huge pile of herbed spaghetti squash in there as well!
Okay, can you tell egg sandwiches were a huge thing for me on this trip (and just eggs generally)? This sandwich with vegan cashew cheese & tomato jam from The Butchers Daughter was divine, on gluten free bread.
