Liv Lundelius - How to Look After Your Skin - Guest Blog Post

This week’s skin care post comes to you from a makeup artist and natural beauty expert that I can personally recommend – she did the make up for my wedding! Liv is such a beautiful soul and I especially love that she is focussed on moving away from toxins in both your make up bag and your skin care routine.

Last week I shared some tips on Liv’s blog on the best beauty foods for healthy skin.  Now, Liv is here to share with us her advice on how to look after your skin using clean, nourishing products.

Skincare is such an important topic and I am passionate about potions & lotions.  I am excited to share with you some of my favourite natural products along with some tips on a really good yet basic skin care routine.

It’s just as important what you put ON your body as what you put into your body.  As the largest organ the skin absorbs skin care product ingredients quickly into the bloodstream.  To keep your skin healthy and radiant I recommend using natural beauty products, preferably certified organic and free of potentially toxic ingredients.

Cleanse

In the morning, splashing your face with water can be enough to refresh the skin.  If your skin feels oily, feel free to use a gentle cleanser in the morning as well.  It’s best to choose a non-foaming cream-, milk-, oil- or balm cleanser as they don’t strip your skin or disturbing its functions.

In the evening always make sure to double cleanse: always remove makeup first before you cleanse your skin. The same goes for sunscreen, which will also require a double cleanse. The most economical and gentle makeup remover is pure coconut oil, which removes even waterproof mascara.  Once you removed your makeup, use your cleanser and gently massage it into the skin and then rinse; you can also use a soft cotton cloth.  Take care to use lukewarm water, never too hot or ice cold.

My personal cleanser right now is Bloom Glow&Polish and a long term favourite is the La Mav Hydra Calm Cleansing Crème.

Hydrate

I love to refresh my skin with a hydrating mist after cleansing, this has a mild toning effect, without being drying.  Most natural brands hydrating mists are based on aloe vera which is very soothing and calming for the skin and have botanical extracts and essential oils added to them, depending on skin type or concern. Many have aromatherapy benefits and are perfect to keep on your desk for a quick pick me up too.  I love the Gressa Rejuvenating Mist, it’s very soothing and calming.

Moisturize

This step is very skin type specific and also depends on the season/environment.  The drier your skin and colder the season, the richer the moisturizer.  The oilier the skin and warmer/humid the weather the lighter the moisturizer, as a rule of thumb.  You will most likely have to change your moisturizer with the seasons.

I like to use oils on damp skin after a hydrating spray, this way they absorb more easily.  They will also be able to lock in the moisture provided from the hydrating spray.

Massage your skin to improve circulation and radiance.  If your moisturizer can not be used around the eye area, use a eye-cream and gently pat it around the bones around your eye, be careful not to bring it too close to the eye.

I am a big fan of the Bloom Nourish Oils, La Mav Antioxidant Rich Nightly Repair Nectar and Z’kin Moisturizers.

Exfoliate

It’s good to do a deep cleanse or exfoliation once a week.  A detoxifying mud mask is a great gently choice to balance oily the skin and draw impurities, or use a gentle cleansing paste with a muslin cloth, to buff away dead skin cells.  Always be mindful to not rub the skin and stay away from coarse scrubs that can damage the skin.

My favourite exfoliating mask is Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask, which is a bit of a special treat, and the Miskin Organics Detox Mask does a great mud mask for problem skin.

I hope you enjoyed this little skin care ritual and product recommendations, if you have any questions please head over to Liv Lundelius Blog or contact me directly at liv@livlundelius.com.

Very well explained the importance of a skin care routine. Actually, you covered all the necessary points required in a perfect skincare routine.

Completely agree with you keeping our skin hydrated is very important.

To improve the skin glow there are various skin routines and skincare products that one must use. You must select the right product as per your skin type.
