Double balanced babe alert!
Today I’m bringing you an interview with two girls who just exude enthusiasm for all things (healthy) foodie and fitness… Carla and Emma Papas, a.k.a. the merrymaker sisters. I’ve been following them on Instagram for some time now and am also a massive fan of their blog! Once you start reading through it you can’t help but get excited about getting in the kitchen and trying something new. They’ve also got an ebook of even more delicious goodness (and another one on the way!)
the merrymaker sisters follow a paleo eating style, and if it’s something you’re interested in I think they are going to be such a great source of inspiration for you. What I really love is the clean, simple and fun way their ideas are presented. The girls don’t focus on the “don’t eat this” list, but instead are all about the tonne of tasty nourishing stuff you should be eating! Just the way it should be – there is so much awesome, healthy food out there.
Read on to learn a bit about the merrymaker sisters, what’s in their fridge and how they like to keep active. The girls have also shared a super simple and yummy recipe for some macadamia cookies, paleo of course! A huge thank you to the merrymaker sisters for spending time with us on the blog! xx
We were sick of feeling sick, fed up with counting calories, beyond tired from the guilt we felt after eating, with low self-esteem and terribly confused as to why we felt this way. We had to find a way of living where these feelings didn’t exist. Then we found paleo! We started sharing our images across our own personal social media channels and everyone went crazy for the recipes! So we decided that there was no other choice but to make them available to everyone! Welcome: the merrymaker sisters!
Was it that we found paleo, or that paleo found us? We’ll never know but will be forever grateful for what it has brought into our lives. Not only good health but a fire in our tummies (aka passion) to share it with the world!
Choosing to live a paleo lifestyle was one of the best decisions we EVER made. Not only did it lead us to create the merrymaker sisters but we’ve never felt and looked better. During the first three months of living a paleo lifestyle, we experienced some amazing benefits, including higher and longer lasting energy levels, weight loss and clear skin. While also ditching 3pm sugar cravings and bloated bellies. Woohoo!
2. You’re advocates of living a paleo lifestyle. For those interested in changing to a paleo-style diet, what do you think people tend to find the hardest? What are your tips for overcoming these issues?
The hardest thing is when you first look at the ‘no list’. It can be daunting because there are so many foods that you’re not supposed to eat: no grains, no dairy, no refined sugar, no legumes, no gluten (the list seems scary!). What we say is find what works for you and what makes you feel good. Experiment, change and figure out the foods that suit your body. It may be that dairy suits you just fine and if that’s the case, eat dairy! Paleo is more like a set of guidelines rather than a strict diet. Once you’ve figured out that part (which will forever be changing anyway!) focus on adding MORE to your diet. Add more freshness, more colour and more YUM!
Our first eBook, Let’s Eat Paleo provides a great place to start when going paleo. It has an overview of our shopping trolley, tips, tricks and over 50 delish paleo recipes! Click here to check out (and buy) the book!
3. One question I get asked quite frequently is what kind of snacks are suitable for paleo peeps. Do you have any favourite snacks?
Do we ever?! Our all time favourite snack would have to sweet potato chippies… with guacamole of course! Plus you can’t go past raw bites that are perfect to take to work for an afternoon snack. Like these: Caramel Coconut Bites
We’re also pretty crazy about finding ways to enjoy sweet treats that are actually super duper healthy for you! We have plenty of those on the blog too, like our raw snickers cake or sweet potato brownies! Mmm YUM!
4. What is your weekly exercise routine like?
We LOVE our gym. It’s a CrossFit style gym that focusses on functional movements. This means movements that we do in every day life, like running, jumping, bending, picking up things and putting them back down. We’re never sure what we’re in for each day we go to our gym (FuncFitness Australia) as the workouts only get announced an hour before our session! This makes it more exciting! We also love to fit in a yoga session each week and walks.
5. What foods will we always find in your fridge (or pantry)?
Our fridge will be packed full of fresh veggies! What ever is in season goes! We’ll also have some fresh chicken or grass fed beef and of course loads of eggs! Our pantry will be stocked full of all our paleo baking essentials like nut meal, coconut oil, Natvia, raw honey, rice malt syrup, cinnamon, coconut flour, nuts, raw cacao powder… shall we stop there?! Hehe! It’s safe to say that our fridge and pantry are chock full!
6. Please share with us a favourite recipe of yours.
One of our all time favourite recipes is our paleo macadamia cookies! They are super quick to make and just darn delicious! Plus they are a crowd pleaser which is always nice!
